Welcome to WILPF Canada!

WILPF Canada’s goals are to bring together women of different political beliefs and philosophies who are united in their determination to study, make known and help abolish the causes and the legitimization of war; and to work toward world peace; total and universal disarmament; the abolition of violence and coercion in the settlement of conflict and their substitution in every case of negotiation and conciliation; the strengthening of the United Nations system; the continuous development and implementation of international law; political and social equality and economic equity; co-operation among all people; and an environmentally sustainable development.

About us: We are a small (about a dozen or more), diverse group of activists, ranging in age from 20-something to 81. We were born in Canada, the Caribbean, the US., the South Pacific, India, and Europe.  We have worked or are working as teachers, librarians, public administrators, doctors, and politicians. As individuals, outside of WILPF, our interests include influencing prostitution policy, bringing refugees to Canada, educating girls in Africa, and strengthening women’s voices in local politics. Our meetings are devoted to finding ways to influence government policy on militarism, indigenous affairs and other public issues. If you would like to sit in on one of our monthly meetings, please contact Tejal Barde at wilpf.canada@gmail.com.

Statement from Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom

WILPF is deeply saddened at the ongoing and escalating loss of life in Palestine and Israel, which take place in the context of ongoing Israeli occupation, war crimes and impunity. We denounce all attacks against civilians by all parties. Indiscriminate attacks on civilians are a crime under international law and cannot be justified. The Israeli government has enforced a complete siege on Gaza. No water, food, electricity or fuel is allowed into the territory. Collective punishment further exacerbates ethnic cleansing and must stop. The siege and ongoing attacks will increase social and economic inequalities that perpetuate vulnerabilities and disadvantage women ...

VOW & WILPF-Canada’s submission to the UN Human Rights Council for its Universal Periodic Review of Canada.

VOW and WILPF-Canada jointly made a submission to the UN Human Rights Council for its Universal Periodic Review of Canada. Our submissions are in English and French. Canada will be reviewed on November 10, 2023 in the morning Geneva time. You can learn more about Canada’s upcoming review here: https://www.ohchr.org/en/hr-bodies/upr/ca-index In our submission, we argue among other things that the federal government’s rising military spending and weapons purchases undermines the economic and social rights of Canadians. We believe that militarism is a threat to human rights. The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique mechanism of the UN Human Rights ...

Get your ticket! View the agenda You say you’re against war, but what’s the alternative? Managing conflict nonviolently is one of the three core strategies of World BEYOND War’s alternative global security system. But when the rule of law and diplomacy are failing and violence is underway, both seasoned activists and newcomers alike often question whether unarmed resistance can be effective against military invasion, occupation, and war. Throughout three days of virtual ...
